MIB Case Study
The MIB is the only central record of all insured vehicles in the UK and is updated daily by all UK insurers. TSC's task was to increase awareness levels across the workforce.
Introduction
As the MIB is the only central record of all insured vehicles in the UK and is updated daily by all UK insurers, it is vital that its cyber security levels are strong and resilient.
Within the Motor Insurer's Bureau (MIB), we found a two-fold challenge.
The first challenge was to raise awareness and knowledge across the workforce about Data Protection requirements in relation to data retention, data minimisation, data protection by design and data breach reporting.
The second challenge was to ensure employees, in a variety of high risk (privileged access) user roles, were aware of Data Protection legislation and how it impacted on them in their individual roles.

The objectives
To further develop knowledge and awareness across the MIB workforce we needed to:
- Identify gaps in knowledge and select the most suitable learning solution.
- Find an engaging and time-effective solution to plug gaps in knowledge.
- Deliver a bespoke cyber security animation that fills the client's criteria and core messaging.
- Reach employees across a wide range of departments with role-specific webinars.
Our methodology:
Identify gaps in knowledge
Deliver targeted videos and webinars
Survey success of training

- Short bite-sized videos (animated infographics)
TSC and the client agreed that delivering short bite-sized videos (animated infographics) on each topic would be the most versatile and time-effective solution. The animations were individually scoped by developing and agreeing on the content and core messaging, developing a storyboard to reinforce the content, and then animating the deliverable
- Role-specific webinars
A series of role specific webinars were delivered for people in the following roles: human resources, communications, claims department, finance, customer services and operations and the Insurance Fraud Bureau. The content of the webinar was developed in collaboration with the Data Protection team and real-world and role-specific examples were used throughout to bring home the reality of the challenge.
The result
“Very informative, useful not just in the workplace but also in personal life.”
“Great course – it brought what is usually a dry area to life. I am very busy at the moment so had put the training off, but it was actually nice to sit back and think about all the data I’m handling. Brilliantly presented.”
“It was a very useful session and there were multiple things covered that were new information to me, so very much worthwhile.”
- Client feedback
